Coaching Summary:

Most importantly as a coach I aspire to share a love for the game and to help develop great people and great players, in that order.  I believe that players must “own” their experience, not play for their parents or their coaches.  Players must master an impeccable technical base so that they control the game and make things happen.  Players must be taught to be responsible decision makers so that they can solve problems independently of their coaches.  I think that guidelines are important to direct a player’s efforts, but that individual creative expression must be encouraged.  I believe that problem solving and positive reinforcement are more effective tools for teaching youth than highlighting errors.  Players must learn that there is no way to achieve success without putting in the time, making the sacrifices, and demanding the best of themselves.  It is important that players truly understand that without their teammates they cannot achieve anything, but also, that they are responsible for pulling their own weight within the group. I believe that at its finest, sports are a way for us to recognize, through challenges, where we are strong and where we are weak, and, amazingly, are able to change and grow in that context.

Most Memorable Soccer Highlight:

The most memorable “Soccer Highlight” for me is the memory I have of the first soccer game I ever played.  It is not a grand memory, but I will never forget how I felt that day.  I was 8 years old and played for the LWYSA Rec Pink Panthers.  At some point during the game a teammate passed me the ball, and I started to run towards goal.  Strangely, as I ran, I realized that the whole world had changed around me.  Suddenly there were no fans, no teammates, no opponents; it felt like there was nothing on the field except me, the ball, endless green, and that beautiful goal at the end.  That was the moment I knew that I love this game and that it would always be a part of my life.
